How I learned full-stack development: my path and advice
I study Applied Physics and Computer Science, but most of my practical skills came from deliberate self-training alongside my degree.
The path
I started with fundamentals: a Coursera course in technical support, then HTML, CSS and JavaScript from Johns Hopkins University, and a Python certificate on Sololearn. In 2024 I joined Power Learn Project Academy for Software Development, then the 16-week Full-Stack MERN programme in 2025.
What actually made the difference
Projects. Capital Bank of Kenya, Afya Diary Kenya, PesaFlow and the bursary system each forced me to solve problems no tutorial covered: authentication, roles, validation and deployment.
My advice
Pick one stack and go deep. Build things people could actually use. Read other people's code. Write about what you learn, because teaching a concept proves you understand it. And find a community, because growth is faster with mentors and peers.
That last point is why I built IsoMount Tech Collective.
